REYNOLDS, Ga. - The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series tackled the quarter mile strip at Silver Dollar Raceway over the weekend with hundreds of racers competing in head to head competition. Local Jeffrey Barker of Kathleen, Ga., highlighted the list of winners in the seventh race of seven events that are held in the Southeast Division, which completes the 2014 season for this division.

Barker picked up his twelfth divisional win of his career by powering his '06 Cobalt to a 6.746 second, 188.54 mph pass to defeat Jeff Southerland, Andover, Ill., in the Top Sportsman final. Barker continued his hot streak by winning his last four divisional races and securing the Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series division championship.

With a win in Super Gas, Steve Furr, Harrisburg, N.C., picked up his tenth career divisional win and was able to grab the division title. He drove his '68 Camaro to the finish line at 9.901 seconds at 165.58 mph over Sergio Santovenia, Boca Raton, Fla., in the final. Jim Kimbrough, of Pace, Fla., won the Comp Eliminator final by less than a thousandth of a second to notch his fourth divisional win over Tony Mandella, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Tom Sheehan, Belle Vernon, Pa., hoisted the trophy in Super Stock when Ronnie Dutton, Southside, Ala., went red at the tree. Gregory Rowe from Bridgeton, N.C., was able to pick up his fourth divisional win of his career in seven final round appearances with his 12.650 second, 74.91 mph pass in Stock Eliminator.

Kevin Brannon, Boiling Springs, S.C., was victorious in Super Comp, Matt Weston, Wellford, S.C., grabbed his first win in Super Street, and Bill Earnest, Knoxville, Tenn., made it to his first final round in the Hickory Enclosed Trailers Top Dragster class to take the win.

Dean Mirra, of Wellington, Fla., used a great reaction time to win the 10.00 Index category, Corky Bumpus, Ocala, Fla., had a perfect reaction time to secure the win in the 11.00 Index, and Ryan Mangus, Rialto, Calif., got the win in the 12.00 Index.

In conjunction with the event, Tyler Caheely, Rock Springs, Ga., raced to the win in the inaugural NHRA Southeast Division Moser Sportsman Shootout. He drove his ’68 Camaro Super Stock entry to a final round lap of 6.509 seconds at 101.71 mph in the eighth-mile specialty event over Steve Furr.

Saturday

REYNOLDS, Ga. – Racers made final qualifying runs and first rounds of eliminations today at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Silver Dollar Raceway. 

Racers in 11classes of competition took to the track that included Stock, Super Stock, and the Hickory Enclosed Trailers Top Dragster Series and the Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series. The NHRA Southeast Division Moser Sportsman Shootout finished time trials and started first round of eliminations. Tyler Caheely raced to the win in the inaugural NHRA Southeast Division Moser Sportsman Shootout .

Caheely, Rock Springs, Ga., drove his ’68 Camaro Super Stock entry to a final round lap of 6.509 seconds at 101.71 mph in the eighth-mile specialty event.  Caheely defeated Steve Furr who was pulling double duty as he qualified in two classes beating out Jim Perry in Super Gas but loosing to Jeff Strickland in Top Dragster in round one.  Caheely knocked out Mike Crutchfield Jeff Harrington and Kevin MacNicol on his way to the final.

In probably the best run of the day, Sandy Wilkins took out Jeffrey Barker in the Top Sportsman round one match up of the shootout.  Both drivers were .016 off the line with Wilkins running 4.414 on a 4.41 dial and Barker was 4.375 on his 4.37.  Wilkins fell to Strickland in round two.

In final qualifying it was Van Puckett, Monroe, Ga., leading the Comp Eliminator field with a pass of 8.187 seconds in his ’05 Cavalier.  Kyle Cultrera and Clark Smiley are second and third.

Ricky Decker and Roger Johnson are on top of Super Stock and Stock respectively.  Decker went 9.613 in his ’94 Camaro and Johnson clocked in at 10.237 in his ’14 Camaro followed by Strickland at 10.259 in his ’14 Camaro.

In Top Sportsman and Top Dragster it was Keith Raftery and Alan O’Brien landing in the No. 1 position with Raftery crossing the line in 6.580 seconds at 211.73 and O’Brien went 6.050, 236.05 in Top Dragster.

Rounding out the qualifying was Dean Mirra, Willington, Fla., in 10.00 Index; Jack Aspinwall, Brunswick, Ga., in 11.00 Index; and Danny Towe, Lawrenceville, Ga., in 10.00.

REYNOLDS, Ga. - The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southeast Division will conclude at Silver Dollar Raceway on October 17-19. The event is one of 44 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series and Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series will also be run in conjunction with the event.

The Moser Sportsman Shootout specialty event will highlight Saturday’s action as 16 drivers will battle it out in a dial-in/breakout handicap format on the eighth-mile. Ray Miller III and Steve Furr lead the field as both have qualified in two different classes for the unique competition. 

Gates at Silver Dollar Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 10 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will qualify Friday at 2:30 and 4 p.m., and Saturday at 11 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Eliminations begin on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for some classes and continue on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Tickets for Silver Dollar Raceway are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND
: a $519,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional, regional and national champions. Regional awards include $10,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions with Divisional awards of $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

JEGS ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA’s seven divisions will compete for a share of the $124,000 point fund from JEGS High Performance. The 2015 JEGS Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ eight classes as well as Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2015 JEGS Allstars. Points are based on in-division races only.

The winning division and regional teams will share $25,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, $5,000 to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $25,000 towing fund to get to the event.

Event sponsor, JEGS High Performance, is offering a “double up” bonus to JEGS Allstars participants. Any 2015 JEGS Allstars champion who also wins the national event will have his/her Allstars prize doubled.

MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT: Drivers who compete in seven NHRA sportsman classes will be eligible to participate in a new sportsman shootout program sponsored by Moser Engineering. Moser Engineering Sportsman Shootout qualifying points will be earned by competitors in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman at each Southeast Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The Moser Sportsman Shootout will be held at the 2014 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Silver Dollar Raceway with a posted purse of $15,000, with the winner taking home up to $5,000.
